Just thought I'd put my 2 cents here. (might be all it's worth but who knows) A couple podcasts ago you were talking about a couple instances where you had people tell you they werent going to fight you for a split pot and one time where you had a guy making the dealer explain why he lost with a smaller flush. Could these have been instances of this tactic? Only you were there so looking back what do you think.

The $17.00 situation is a great one. I love using the "clueless" blind posting. One I use, is messy chip stacking. Who comments that my highest valued chips must be on top? Who comments that I've placed a stack of high value chips behind low value chips? Who asks how many chips I have, before betting?
Re: DrCheckRaise Talks With WSOP Champ Jerry Yang

I've only had that "super extreme" will to win, once in my life. On figure skates, in an all New York City race, I was so far ahead that I was behind the pack. I've never forgotten the moment. Choice was to stay where I was, and guarantee winning, or risk going thru the pack. If I went thru the pack, I had a very high chance of falling (translation slammed by another skater). But, if I made it, it was one for the record books. No one had ever done it, and no one had ever won not using racing blades. So, I decided to go for it. The record was more important to me than the medal. I made it, and won by a full lap. No bands played, and my figure skating instuctor almost killed me (a blade in the leg ends a figure skaters career). But it was worth it. Well, yes Jerry had to take chances in order to win. He had to hope he didn't go down. And, as the Irish would say, "he needed the wind against his back".

Not one of the "amatuers" had not been playing their brains out for 2-20 years. Jerry was of course lucky. No luck, no win. Yes, Jerry probably got some good cards. dead deck, no win.But. I suspect that he had something else going for him. He wanted the money! Not out of greed, or want of fame, but because he understood money. In all competions, I need to win the prize, more than anything else in life. That's the edge he had. He had dreams of changing people's lives with that money. He would be able to give back to his wife for all her sacrifices. He was not just playing for himself, he was playing for a multitude. The 10% is called "tithing", so I'm not impressed by that. That's what protestants do. No, I'm impressed by his other charitable acts with the money. He has also been very gracios as a winner. That's class.
So, forget the suckouts, that's poker. Admire the man. I doubt any of you can do what he did. So, respect him.

I know I play with the objective of getting my opponent to commit his/her chips to extremely low percentage (for them) situations. My motto, "I may be outdrawn, but I rarely get outplayed." I know from my own notes that over 85% of my lost hands come from 10 outters or worse bets without compensating pot odds. Sadly, there are still way too many of these suck outs hitting. Ah well, I keep playing and one day, maybe it will pay off.

Danielle_HAC Wrote:
-------------------------------------------------------
> I believe luck has a defined % in poker .... isn't
> that right??? ....now what percentage is it ? I
> will get my maths books out later and have a look.
> I know it isn't 100% luck, I know it isn't 90% or
> 80% or 70% or 60% or even close to 50% ..... I
> think I can keep going down A LOT.
>
> I would like to now know how ANY WSOP champ can
> win on the factor of luck when it has a fairly low
> percentage in poker? Lets look at some other
> players ...Gus Hansen!! ...He won the Aussie
> Millions and recorded EVERY hand. Deep stack
> tourney, certainly not 6 thousand players but a
> good example. Well here is a little poker trivia
> for those who could even possibly assume Jerry is
> a lucky donk... out of all of the hands that Gus
> Hansen recorded to win the Aussie Millions ...only
> 22 were premium being AA, KK,QQ,JJ AK and AQ
> suited..
>
> What a shame Jerry Yang didn't do the same ;) I am
> guessing not every hand he played was a premium
> one....... right? Certainly he did have some
> though!

Re: DrCheckRaise Talks With WSOP Champ Jerry Yang

I believe luck has a defined % in poker .... isn't that right??? ....now what percentage is it ? I will get my maths books out later and have a look. I know it isn't 100% luck, I know it isn't 90% or 80% or 70% or 60% or even close to 50% ..... I think I can keep going down A LOT.

I would like to now know how ANY WSOP champ can win on the factor of luck when it has a fairly low percentage in poker? Lets look at some other players ...Gus Hansen!! ...He won the Aussie Millions and recorded EVERY hand. Deep stack tourney, certainly not 6 thousand players but a good example. Well here is a little poker trivia for those who could even possibly assume Jerry is a lucky donk... out of all of the hands that Gus Hansen recorded to win the Aussie Millions ...only 22 were premium being AA, KK,QQ,JJ AK and AQ suited..

What a shame Jerry Yang didn't do the same ;) I am guessing not every hand he played was a premium one....... right? Certainly he did have some though!

That I find very encouraging.
