Just wanted to give you a little history on Canadian poker player Todd Hunter and encourage you to have a listen to Episode #6 from February 10th, 2010.
Todd made it down to the final few hundred players in the 2009 WSOP Main Event, busting on day 5 and cashing in excess of 32k. Not bad for his first shot. To get there he didn't just hit a few hands and blind his way out. Todd could have easily shut down at a few points in the game and made it into way bigger money. He was there to try to win it all.
To get to the WSOP, Mr. Hunter bested a multi-day event against a few tough players, including a WPTC TV final table finisher Ron Campbell. For that win he received 20k and a 12k WSOP package. No walk in the park. I had an opportunity to watch Todd play a 180 player, $225 buy in event recently and after that and knowing a bit of his history, I know he is a player to learn from.
During the event Todd would predict his chip stack for the following break during the preceding one. He kept on track throughout the 14 hours of play and made a chop heads up for almost 7k. He literally walked through the field. Todd estimates his total profits in 2009 to be well over 100k and we can see 69k in cashes right here. I don't think he has turned 30 years old yet.
Todd credits his current level of poker thinking to asking questions of experienced players and by using tools like Camtasia and Card Runners to get in the heads of others and let his mentors into his. He is also a huge believer in mind and body strengthening that go hand in hand with new age poker training like mind linguistics, concepts that Phil Hellmuth and other top pro's are also hiring trainers in.
While these live stats are impressive to me, his online results are just as good. I will edit this article later when I can pull the db on him, but I know he has very deep FTOPS and WCOOP finishes.
At one point in the podcast he discusses with Poker Joe and the Doc an ever popular forum topic question....laying down that huge pocket pair pre-flop. On day one of the WSOP he was faced with this decision, I have heard all the details on the hand. The toughest but best fold of his career to date. Have a listen, Eposide #6 on the pop up player >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Enjoy and great interview guys!
